What a tremendous and fitting success! A year of such vastly contrasting emotions, 2006 has provided all those associated with the Steve Bernard Foundation with loving memories, intense heartache and not just a few little laughs.
After its formation in February of this year, the foundation has gone from strength to strength. Although the road has not been entirely straightforward, since Steve’s tragic passing on the second of November 2005, the unwavering love and support of those close to him has been remarkable and has led to the tremendous success which we have encountered.
Fundraising
In its first year the foundation has organised various fundraisers and events which have contributed to a monumental £21,000 being raised for local sporting causes.
The Valentines Disco in February of 2006 was the first event organised by the foundation. It was an opportunity to recollect the good times and the happy memories. Although an event which tugged at the heart strings, the ball was rolling and the total started to mount up.
Undoubtedly the largest event of 2006 was the Sporting Memorabilia Auction and Memorial Dinner held at AFC Bournemouth. The event was hosted by Comedian Scott Charlton and featured signed lots from Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Liverpool. The night featured moving talks from Steve’s Dad Tony and close friend Craig Mathie and was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.
Close to £10,000 was raised for the Foundation one the evening and we were thoroughly grateful to all those who came along or donated items. Particular thanks go to our partners for the evening, the Daily Echo and Remzi of Falcon Catering of particular note.
•A casino night and memorabilia raffle held at Chapel Gate organised in conjunction with BS Grange YFC.
•Donations received in the aftermath of the accident.
•A charity Football match held in November of 2005.
