.:. Chichester Dedicate Cup Win to Stevie .:.
Report written by Chester Browton
Manager Adie Girdler dedicated victory to the late Steve Bernard after Chichester retained the Brighton Charity Cup last Wednesday, defeating Ringmer 2-1.
“When Steve was killed in a car crash last November it totally overshadowed our whole season,” reflected Girdler, “and in a way, winning this cup is a way of remembering him.”

There were mixed emotions for the Chi boss immediately after the full-time whistle:   cause to celebrate, but also a moment of realisation that the curtain had come down on a season when the club had lost one of its promising young players in tragic circumstances.   The first person that Girdler phoned with news of the result was Steve’s father.

This was also a revenge mission for Chichester, who had been beaten by Ringmer in last year’s RUR Cup final.   The Blues were no doubt feeling a little deflated on this occasion, having recently lost their long-running battle with Horsham YMCA for the County League title along with manager John Crumplin serving his notice period after deciding to quit.
